The Morningside campus rests on a buried environmental treasure – a domestic water loop that’s 10,000 feet long.

Installed in 1998-1999, the single loop has allowed for a change in the pumping system that gets water to buildings’ high floors. Formerly, pumps used in a multi-pipe system had to run continuously and at a constant speed. Today, the system has been converted to variable speed pumping, with significant reductions in energy use and costs. Last year’s savings was $40,000.

As retrofitting continues, all pumps are being changed to variable speed.
