While all stewardship activities are important to sustaining our environment and its resources, some have immediate impacts on personal and environmental safety. Many of these activities are regulated by local, state, and federal law, but all of us in the Columbia community have some responsibility for the reducing the environmental impact of our work and studies. Whether it’s the recycling of the items of everyday life (batteries, computers, home electronics) or the proper disposal of the ingredients of laboratory science (chemicals, radioactive materials, medical waste), we interact regularly with substances that can be harmful to the environment if not managed with appropriate care.
Whether you are a faculty member, physician, researcher, student, facilities manager, or administrator, you should know that specialists are available to consult with you regarding your personal protection and your obligations to preserving our environment.
