The Columbia market is year-round on Sundays and Thursdays and as always, accepts credit, debit, and EBT. With Chinese New Year, the Super Bowl, and Valentines Day just around the corner, there are plenty of fun, food-centric events to get us through the long slog of winter.
Celebrate with your local farmers market! Here are our highlights from this week's markets:
*Xin Nián Kuài Lè (Happy New Year)! Celebrate the Chinese New Year with us this Sunday, 1/29. Welcome the fiery Year of the Dragon with an equally fiery Chinese hot pot. Swing by the Market Information table from 12-1 and check out this cooking demo that's both interactive and delicious!
*This Thursday, 1/29, welcome our new Long Island vegetable farmer, Brian Gajeski. Underneath his tents you will find a premiere selection of field, greenhouse, and storage vegetables.
*Early bird gets the dairy! Make it to the market early on Thursdays in order to guarantee your weekly fix of creamy Ronnybrook milk and dairy products. Their Creamline Yogurt is just as good as the trendy "greek" varieties that are ubiquitous right now, but it's made from the milk of local, grass-fed, happy cows.
*Next time you stop by Samascott's for your weekly apple-fix, ask them about their African adventures! Members of the Samascott family of Samascott Orchard fame and 2011 Stuy Town Greenmarket manager Jen Ose-MacDonald climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania together on New Year’s Eve.
