What is this, and why is it important?
Reconnecting to the origins of our food is of utmost importance in our increasingly green society. Buying locally severs the tie to fossil fuels used to transport and process food not purchased locally, encourages local prosperity, and decreases pollution and habitat loss associated with non-sustainable food production.
What can YOU do?
What is Columbia doing?
Columbia Dining works with both the NYC Greenmarkets and a multitude of local vendors to provide locally grown and produced foods to the Columbia Community. Approximately 52% of all food served at Columbia is purchased from vendors within 250 miles of the Morningside campus. Read more about Columbia's sustainable dining operations.
