Urban Parks Internship

Start:  Fall 2008

Hours: 20 hours per week

Stipend:  $15,000 for academic year

Job Qualifications:
The intern must have hands on gardening experience, eagerness to work outside (even in inclement weather). Excellent team leadership, organizational and communication skills. Familiarity with 19th Century landscape theory and practice a plus. Graduate student preferred.

Job Description:
The program is conducted in cooperation with Friends of Morningside Park, and provides an academic year stipend of $15,000.  The intern will act as a Parks and Recreation Coordinator, reporting to the Board of the Friends of Morningside Park and working directly with the Park Gardener and the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation crew to assist in the daily horticultural maintenance of the park. The intern will also coordinate and act as team leader for volunteer projects in the park, and work with other local organizations involved in horticultural maintenance (for instance, the Dept. of Parks and Recreation, the Central Park Conservancy). He or she will attend meetings pertaining to these issues on behalf of the Friends group.
